Product Information and Features The printer drivers included in this installation are designed to support these HP DeskWriter 300 Series printers: • HP DeskWriter 320 • HP DeskWriter 310 ColorSmart™ The printer drivers use HP's ColorSmart technology to make high-quality color printing simple. When you select Print, ColorSmart automatically adjusts the print settings for great looking output whether you are printing color or grayscale. To override ColorSmart’s automatic settings, select HP Options in the More Choices area of the Print dialog box. Use the pop-up menus to select alternative settings for Intensity, Halftoning, and Color Matching. Refer to the Balloon Help for more information on these settings. The printer drivers also allow you to take advantage of the following QuickDraw GX features: Desktop Printers Selecting a printer in the Chooser now creates a printer icon that appears on the Macintosh desktop. You can create desktop printer icons for more than one printer. The advantage of having multiple printer icons on the desktop is that you can send a document to more than one printer without repeatedly invoking the Chooser. Drag and Drop Printing To print a document from the Finder, drag the document icon onto any desktop printer icon. The document will print with the previously saved Page Setup and Print settings. TrueType 2.0 Font Support To take advantage of the unique QuickDraw GX font features, use TrueType 2.0 fonts. System Requirements Operating System: System 7.5 and QuickDraw GX 1.0 Processor: At least a 68030 or PowerPC Memory: At least 8 MB (more memory required for optimal performance) Hard Disk Space: At least 10 MB of free disk space. If you have less than 10 MB, the printer drivers may not install properly. Differences Between HP QuickDraw and HP QuickDraw GX Printer Drivers Cleaning Print Cartridges and Battery Management Perform battery management functions and clear clogged ink nozzles from the Printing menu when your desktop printer is selected. Print... and Page Setup... The Print and Page Setup dialog boxes in QuickDraw GX applications are different from the ones in QuickDraw applications. Both QuickDraw GX and QuickDraw applications will work with the HP QuickDraw GX printer driver. TrueType 2.0 Font Support Both TrueType 1.0 and 2.0 fonts can be used with QuickDraw GX. The fonts that ship with the HP DeskWriter 300 Series printer driver are TrueType 1.0. These fonts work with QuickDraw GX, but in order to take advantage of the unique QuickDraw GX font features, you need to use TrueType 2.0 fonts. Desktop Printers QuickDraw GX allows you to choose more than one printer and create a desktop printer for each one. When printing from a QuickDraw GX application, you can select any of the desktop printers from the pop-up menu in the Print dialog box. When printing from QuickDraw applications, you must select the desktop printer first and then, from the Printing menu, select Set default printer. The default printer has a black border around its printer icon. Print Job Status To monitor the status of print jobs, double-click the desktop printer icon. The dialog box will allow you to view print jobs in the queue, stop printing, change the print job order, pause printing, remove a print job, or move jobs to other printers. Background Printing QuickDraw GX always prints in the background. Problems During Printing If a problem occurs during printing, the desktop printer icon will have a yellow warning sign on it. You can view the description of the alert by clicking on the printer icon.
